Universal Studios, Florida installs EatecNet for Back-Office Operations
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Emeryville, CA, June 8, 1998 - Eatec Corporation is pleased to announce that Universal Studios, Florida has successfully installed and implemented Eatec's food and beverage management solution, EatecNet. Using EatecNet, Universal is well on the way to their goal of increased operational efficiency and lowered food costs.
Universal Studios represents one of Eatec's most intricate, complex and far-reaching installations to date. The park not only has huge amounts of data to track and manage but, by virtue of its size and its many unique components, nearly every aspect of the EatecNet system has been put to use.
Universal's entire food and beverage operations are managed and controlled from a single, centralized database. Each of the various locations throughout the park access the central EatecNet system through Universal's own wide-area network, presently allowing real-time data exchange and updates for up to 40 concurrent users.
Within the park, there are over 35 individual sales locations, ranging from fine dining to quick service to food and drink stands and mobile carts. Each of these remote units accesses the EatecNet database to order inventory via Universal's central warehouse. Based on these requests, the warehouse then transfers the necessary inventory to each location.
Because inventory for the entire park's food and beverage operations must first go through Universal's warehouse and is thus tracked through their own warehousing system, this became one of the most crucial aspects of the installation. Working together with their IS staff, Eatec developed a custom interface to Universal's warehousing system, ensuring absolute agreement between both it and EatecNet.
In addition to their warehouse and multiple sales locations, Universal Studios also operates a production kitchen and a separate catering department. The production kitchen requests raw ingredients from the warehouse, then supplies the finished goods back to the warehouse for transfer throughout the park. The catering department, meanwhile, operates its own separate inventory, receiving raw ingredients and products from both the warehouse and production kitchen.
The obvious complexity of Universal Studios' food and beverage operations required a fully integrated, comprehensive back-office system with the functionality to handle each of the unique aspects of their business. With EatecNet in place, however, Universal's management has been able to effectively streamline their operations, resulting in better control, greater efficiency, and a more accurate, tangible means for food cost reduction.
