The San Diego Zoo Partners with Eatec Corporation

Emeryville, CA, January, 28, 1998 - Eatec Corporation would like to announce that The San Diego Zoological Society has installed EatecNet to manage the food and beverage operations at each of their parks.
Employing over 1,500 people, the San Diego Zoological Society includes the San Diego Zoo, founded in 1916, as well as the Wild Animal Park, which opened in 1972. The Wild Animal Park is located approximately 30 miles away from the Zoo, but operations at both sites are linked via the Zoological Society's wide-area network.
Both the Zoo and the Wild Animal Park operate between 25 - 30 separate sales and inventory locations throughout each park, including restaurants and bars, cafes, delis, mobile carts, and food and beverage stands.
In addition, each park has its own warehouse from which all inventory is ordered. The inventory is held at the warehouse until a request is received from one of the units, and is then transferred out.
Finally, both parks also offer fully catered corporate and social functions, which EatecNet handles easily through its optional catering module. And, although catering is a separate operation at each site, the data specific to these operations is tracked through the EatecNet system as well. Thus, management can see how sales and usage of their catering functions relates to the food and beverage operations as a whole.
Using EatecNet's multi-location solution, the Society operates and maintains just one database for both parks. Each of the operational units - whether the warehouses, catering, or individual sales locations - access the single, centrally located database via their wide-area network. Using passwords as entry controls, each park may only view and manipulate its own data. Further, each location within the park may only utilize information specific to their individual functions.
By having their entire food and beverage operation's data across both parks on a single database, the Zoological Society's management is able to easily review their operations as a whole, by individual site, or through any combination of locations within either site.
Moreover, using this detailed information from EatecNet, management is able to glean important sales and usage history, which has allowed them to accurately identify trends and modify their food and beverage operations for optimum efficiency and profitability.
