On The Edge - Winners of the 2003 Edge Awards share a commitment to innovation and excellence

Restaurant operators continue to raise the bar for IT excellence. The 2003 Edge Award winners were selected from a field of 21 finalists by a panel of judges including HT's editorial staff, Visionary Board and industry experts Curt Harler and Lisa Terry. The winners ranged from Ruby Tuesday with more than 600 units to 11 fine-dining restaurants at B.R. Guest. All the winners exhibited a commitment to innovative information technology solutions to key business problems. Hospitality Technology congratulates all the finalists and winners.

Fine Dining IT Project of the Year
At B.R. Guest, an enterprise system that could collect, store, access and analyze key operations data on a real-time basis, was deemed critical to ensure operational efficiency and corporate profitability. Management needed to bring in all users including purchasing, operations, financial and culinary into one company-wide system. The result would be instant actionable information to control food and beverage costs, payroll, operating supplies, and produce significant gains in overall productivity.

According to chief financial officer, Michael Jacobs, B.R. Guest simultaneously implemented two back-office systems - Avero (www.averoinc.com) Slingshot and Eatec (www.eatec.com) EatecNetX. The systems provided a missing link for B.R. Guest. Nearly 150 corporate and restaurant employees now use the systems for recipe and menu development, inventory management, purchasing, receiving, vendor bidding, production management, trend analysis, cashflow management, labor costs and labor scheduling.
